Nice little blog post explaining an ancient but very relevant way to make your bible reading prayerful:
Lectio Divina at http://godspace.wordpress.com/2010/08/02/what-is-lectio-divina/
I was taught that it originated with St Benedict, who was a great reformer of the early monastic period. His sister St. Scholastica was also centuries ahead of her time.
What's nice about the method, is that Benedict recommending reading silently, reading aloud for yourself or someone else (to hear it), and to touch the text and follow along with your hands (to make it tactile). He is also said to have used his imagination to picture himself there. That is multiple intelligences and reading comprehension at work!
